What is an Islamic Endowment (Waqf)?

A Waqf is a permanent charitable endowment — a gift you dedicate for the sake of Allah that is preserved rather than spent away. Instead of being distributed just once, the endowment is protected and put to work, so the good it does keeps flowing for years, and often for generations.

It is one of the most rewarding and enduring forms of giving in Islam: a way to turn a single act of charity into a lasting source of benefit for the people who need it most.

The reward that never ends

Charity that keeps giving — even after you're gone

Our Prophet ﷺ taught that when we pass on, our deeds come to an end — save for an ongoing charity whose benefit continues.

A Waqf is the very definition of Sadaqah Jariyah, a continuing charity. Because the endowment endures, so does its reward: every family helped, every well drawn from and every child taught becomes part of an unbroken chain of good.

For many donors, a Waqf is a way to leave a legacy of mercy — a gift that keeps giving on their behalf, and on behalf of the loved ones they wish to remember.

Where it goes

Enduring assets that serve communities for years

Your endowment is invested in things that last. That might mean sinking a water well that serves a village for decades, endowing a school that educates class after class of children, or sustaining clinics that care for mothers and babies season after season.

Rather than meeting a need only once, a Waqf builds the capacity to keep meeting it — clean water, education, healthcare and food security that outlive the gift itself.
